Windsurfing: Minster Wind Direction: NE Wind Stength: 15-20mph Surf / Sea State: Choppy with some swell Air Temperature: 20 Sea Temperature: 10 Weather: Sunny Max Speed: Distance Covered:
Left work at 5pm and arrived at Minster just before 7pm to find the guys
out on the water not planing and guys who had been on 6.4s coming in to
call it a day. Decided to rig the 7.5m anyway as it did look quite windy
despite the lack of planing by anyone on the water. Took a while to rig the
sail as it was tricky getting the bottom cam on, in the end I gave up and
left the bottom cam off (need to practise rigging this one in the
garden).
This was to be my first planing session for about 6 months.
Had a few issues getting past the shore break, once out got some good
planing winds, the wind kept building and soon I was fully powered. Tried a
few gybes but fell in each time apart from once when I stayed dry but did
have to resort to the uphaul after the gybe to steady myself, I need
flatter water to try that I think. I got to dead downwind in the gybes and
then it went wobbly, I was trying Rickys tip of pulling down on the boom
which helped a bit.
It was good racing back in down the swell. Decided to call it a day at 8:30
as it was beginning to get dark, coming in I fell off just off the beach
and let go of my kit which got caught by a wave and when I got to it the
boom had snapped, looks like it is a write-off. After packing up I tried to
drive off and the wheels just spun as I sunk in the sand, had a few goes
and in the end had to get a tow from Ricky. Pretty annoying, I think I will
keep some boards and a spade in the van in case it happens again in the
future.
Despite the mispahs it was still a great session and well worth the effort
to get there!
